Salford Primary school

A Salford primary school has received a good rating following their most recent Ofsted inspection.

Holy Family VA RC Primary School, is a Catholic faith school that is part of the Diocese of Salford, and received a positive rating being praised for the quality of education and the personal developments of it students.

The school, based on Lower Seedley Road were awarded the ‘Good’ rating following a recent inspection on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 June.

Inspectors found that the quality of education was a good impact on the pupils, as the report said: “Typically, staff have high expectations for pupils’ achievement.

“Pupils rise to these challenges and enjoy talking about what they know and can do. They engage actively in lessons and show curiosity when they learn something new. By the end of Year 6, pupils are prepared for the next stage of their education.”

The report conducted in June also shared that the pupils were benefitting from a range of leadership roles that help them develop in confidence and responsibility.

It continued: “Through these roles, pupils make meaningful contributions to school life and help to make their school and local community a better place.”

The inspectors also said that the pupils behaviour was good, and they showed positive attitudes towards learning and that they “respond well to adults’ clear expectations.”

The Ofsted report also added: “They (pupils) feel proud to be part of Holy Family and know that they are well cared for. Pupils arrive at the school from many countries around the world.

“They are supported to settle quickly by staff which helps pupils to feel at home and ready to learn.”

Inspectors also praised staff for the development of children’s early language skills, and “staff use their secure subject knowledge to teach with confidence. They check how well pupils are learning.”

However, the Ofsted inspection also acknowledged that school has had “experienced turbulence in staffing. The school has taken action to ensure that this is stabilising.”

As they continued to shared that information taught in lessons is not always used to ensure that new learning builds securely on what pupils already know and understand.

The inspection continued: “Staffing changes have further affected this, as some staff, on occasion, do not know pupils as well as they might.

“As a result, some pupils do not progress as well as they should when new learning is not linked clearly to what they already know and understand.”

The Ofsted report added: “The school should ensure that staff routinely check pupils’ learning to identify any gaps in learning to ensure that this is secure.”

Ofsted shared however, that the school “has taken effective action to address the areas identified for improvement during the last inspection.”
