Community facilities across Salford are set to receive upgrades thanks to investments totalling over £1.38 million.
The investment for the projects is being contributed by developers and additional sources, to support projects that provide health benefits that improve the lives of local people.
Salford’s community facilities are set to receive upgrades of £1,388,395, with Barr Hill Football Club, Peel Park in Little Hulton and Salford Sports Village all to see improvements.
A total of £869,000 funds has come from Section 106 contributions from developers. These are payments from property developers to make sure their new developments do not put a strain on the city’s local services and infrastructure.
The decisions to allocate the Section 106 funds were made at the council’s Lead Member Briefing for Planning, Transport & Sustainable Development, subject to call-in.
Councillor Mike McCusker, Lead Member for Planning, Transport and Sustainable Development said: “It is fantastic news that our local communities are set to benefit from these upgraded facilities, especially as they are all projects that keep our residents fit and healthy.
“All the money comes from developers – and our Officers work hard to secure these funds so we can pass them on to projects that improve the lives of local people.”
Barr Hill Football Club is set to benefit from £289,000 of improvements to the clubhouse facilities and changing rooms, with a further £519,395 in match funding from additional sources.
As Cllr. McCusker said: “At Barr Hill Football Club works to improve the pitches have already taken place by restricting vehicle access. Now they are set for an improved clubhouse and upgraded changing rooms to meet Football Foundation standards.
“The pitches are well used, and the new facilities will be beneficial for all who use them.”
Peel Park (Little Hulton) has been allocated £345,000 to revitalise the play space, outdoor gym and install a new outdoor table tennis table.
Cllr. McCusker continued: “Peel Park (Little Hulton) play area is in need of investment and this money from developers will enable us to do that.
“We’ve worked hard in the area with the community in developing these proposals so to have final approval on the allocation of money is fantastic. The addition of a new outdoor table tennis table will be a nice feature for the area.”
For the improvements to local community facilities, Salford Sports Village has been given £235,000 towards various improvements.
Councillor Mike McCusker continued: “And Salford Sports Village will see the final all-weather pitch be resurfaced, internal works to upgrade the changing rooms and a new bag space area.
“The reception space will also be reconfigured, and an upgrade will take place to the CCTV system.”
