Salford City are set to welcome the Wolves’ U21 team with a 19:00 clash at the Peninsula Stadium as they aim to progress through the group stages of the VertuTrophy.

Last season, The Ammies were knocked out in their group stage in third position with Wrexham and Port Vale advancing and Wolves’ U21 team finishing bottom of the group.

Salford City are hoping for a similar result as last season when they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers U21 team in a 3-2 thriller.

Salford come into the tie having picked up 7 points in their last 5 games in the league with back-to-back clean sheets for The Ammies, and a FA Cup penalty shootout win against a 10-man Lincoln City.

A matchup we have seen before, as Salford City ran out winning 3-2 last season in the same competition. With goals from Jez Davies in the 8th minute, then three minutes later in the 11th minute, a goal from striker Cole Stockton.

Wolves’ U21 team then struck late with a goal just before half time in the 42nd minute however, this was no stress for The Ammies, who then found a third goal in the 67th minute from Jez Davies again.

Salford will be hoping to repeat history from the 2019/20 season in the EFL Trophy in which they were successful in winning the final against southern opposition and now EFL Championship team Portsmouth 4-2 on penalties after drawing 0-0 in regulation and extra time.

The game will kick off at 19:00 at the Peninsula Stadium, with Salford looking to remain top of their group and advance into the next round, with only a point needed to advance into the next round.
