People in Walkden have responded after police issued a £50,000 reward for information leading to the identity of a baby girl found dead in a Salford field a year ago.
It has been exactly one year today, 20th November 2024, since the remains of a baby girl, named Ava by Greater Manchester Police, were found in Ashton’s Field in Little Hulton.
Last month, police revealed that Baby Ava had been found wrapped in a pair of large underwear, but while a DNA profile was secured from the fabric, the force has no viable leads.
Police have urged people to come forward with fresh information to help them uncover the identity of Baby Ava and are offering a large financial reward and ongoing support for people who help the discovery effort.
Walkden residents have expressed their sadness about the tragic Baby Ava case after the police reward was issued on Thursday morning.
A lady said: “I was devastated when I saw it on the news. It was practically on my doorstep.
“This is dreadful after a full year; I just can’t believe it.”
The Walkden community are desperate for answers. However, many people outside Walkden shopping centre had only heard about the case through word of mouth.
Another lady from Walkden said: “I hope they find someone, I think it’s disgusting.
“It is a sad story, no matter what community you are from.”
Regarding the £50,000 reward, people of Walkden seem positive that it will uncover new leads in the unsolved case.
“Everyone is mad for money around here, if they knew anything, they’d come forward.”
Residents voiced shock and grief, recalling the moment when they found out about baby Ava’s death. One noted:
“A lot of bad things are going on in the world at the moment, it would be nice to see some good.”
With the police urging anyone with any knowledge to come forward, people are hoping for justice for Baby Ava.
“I have prayed for her, whoever she is, it’s dreadful.”
