Salford-born comedian Jason Manford is going to be stealing from the rich to give to the poor as Robin Hood in panto this Christmas.
Manford, who studied drama at Salford University, is playing the lead role, returning to Manchester Opera House this Christmas from 6 December.
The entertainer has carved out a huge career in comedy, television and musical theatre, but he’s never forgotten his Greater Manchester beginnings, returning to the Opera House for his fourth consecutive pantomime season.
He became widely known through 8 Out of 10 Cats and has since fronted numerous TV and radio shows. Alongside his comedy tours, he has earned acclaim in major stage productions including Sweeney Todd, The Producers and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Manford said: “What can I say? It’s just the most amount of fun you can possibly have! Manchester at Christmas with my good pal Ben Nickless.
“To be part of people’s Christmas tradition, as well as so many children’s first experience of theatre, is such a privilege so I just had to come back again this year for Robin Hood! I can’t wait, although I’m not sure about the green tights!”
Manford joked on his time as a drama student at the University of Salford during his recent comedy tour, saying: “Turns out studying drama in Salford isn’t quite as glamorous as you’d imagine. Plenty of drama, mind you, just not always the acting kind!”

Britain’s Got Talent finalist Ben Nickless will be returning alongside Manford, playing the role of Will Scarlett.
Production company Crossroads Pantomimes’ chief executive, Michael Harrison, confirmed that Manford and Nickless bring “incredible talent and chemistry” to the show, making their return a “no-brainer.”
