Salford Lionesses celebrating

In-form Salford City Lionesses have been drawn against Stockport County Ladies Reserves in the quarter final of the Manchester FA Women’s County Cup.

Caz Simone’s side emphatically beat Chorley FC Women 7-1 in the previous round to set up the tie against their Greater Manchester Rivals.

With both teams riding high off good records in their respective leagues, this clash is set to be a cup game to remember.

Salford are league leaders in Division One Central, but second-place St. Helens Women have five games in hand on them and beat them 2-1 in their most recent meeting.

Despite their lofty position, the Lionesses have been inconsistent in the league of late, with two wins, two draws and one loss in their last five matches.

But Salford will travel to Stockport confident that they can add to their string of impressive cup performances this season. After a comfortable 4-0 win over Haslingdon, the Lionesses beat Oldham 3-1 on penalties following a 2-2 draw before they demolished Chorley.

Their win on penalties against Oldham should make the side confident that they can match teams all the way to the death.

But Simone’s side will know they face a stern test in Stockport County’s side, who are confident they have what it takes to win the competition.

Earlier in the competition, Stockport County forward Jess Battle said that the team “have the momentum now and just have to keep playing and winning.”

Meanwhile, Stockport boss Steve O’Hara said that the team were “prepared for the tough games” to come in the competition.

Salford will travel to Stockport on Sunday, 15 March for a 2pm kick-off. The venue where the match will take place will be confirmed at a later date.
