cost-of-living support Household support fund - Salford City Council

Cash-strapped Salford families are being offered a lifeline from the city’s Household Support Fund – but not enough people know about it.

The fund can help with food, fuel and energy and longer-term problems such as support with baby supplies, council tax arrears or even with rent.

The fund is not limited to applicants on benefits as long as they have evidence of their financial struggles and how they cannot purchase the items they need.

The cost of living crisis is an evident concern for the city as household budgets and prices are increasing.

Several people we spoke to at around Salford were not aware of the fund.

Jack Steel was one who didn’t know about the help available.

Applications are open until Tuesday 31st March 2026.

With access to digital platforms, this is made easy to apply for. However, if you are not online, residents may also access the funding through calling in at their local Gateway centre.
