Despite losing to Stockport County ladies reserves, Salford City Lionesses can reflect on a strong season with them being highly dominant in the North West Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division.

The Lionesses started strong from the outset of the season only losing one of their first five games in August.

Their first game against rivals Ashton Ladies ended in a dramatic 3-2 comeback win, starting the Lionesses off on their successful streak.

Despite this, Salford were not as successful in the Women’s FA Cup, losing out on penalties to Accrington Stanley Women in the first round.

Accrington originally took the lead but goals from Beth Tattersall and Charlie Ferguson levelled up proceedings before the intense penalty shootout.

Through September and October, the Lionesses beat Radcliffe women and Atherton Laburnum Rovers and drew with Pilkington women, FC St Helens women and Rochdale women.

The Salford side then went on to win their preliminary round game 4-0 in the Manchester FA County Cup against Haslingden Ladies and Girls.

In November, the Lionesses won all their matches against Wigan Athletic ladies, MSB Woolton and Ashton Town ladies.

The final match of the year, played at the Peninsula Stadium, against Pilkington Women ended in a 5-3 win ending the year at the top of the league.

Salford City Lionesses started the year with a 6-0 win over Radcliffe women and then went onto win 3-1 on penalties against Oldham Athletic women in their second match in the FA County cup.

They then drew Chorley Women in the second round and continued their winning streak with a 7-1 win sending them to the third round.

The Lionesses finished their league campaign with a 2-1 loss over St Helens women and a 1-1 draw to Mossley Hill Athletic.

On March 15, the Lionesses took on Stockport County ladies reserves in the quarter finals of the FA challenge cup but were eliminated after losing 5-4 on penalties.

Salford City Lionesses currently sit second in the league with 37 points after a mixed but successful season.
