November was a mixed bag in terms of results for Salford City, with plenty of positives to take from five matches played in the FA Cup and League Two.
Karl Robinson’s men began the month in style when they beat League One Lincoln City in the FA Cup Round on 1 November.
Kelly N’mai equalised in the fourth minute of stoppage time to force extra time at the death, before Salford ran out convincing 4-2 winners on penalties after both teams played out a scoreless half-hour.
Four perfect penalties earned Salford a second-round tie with League One Leyton Orient, where former Ammies manager Richie Wellens will return to The Peninsula Stadium.
But the euphoria from the dramatic win over Lincoln failed to translate into league form as Salford were held to a goalless draw by recently relegated Cambridge United. This was only the second home game where they failed to score on their own patch.
After the match, Robinson heaped praise on his players for battling to a draw against a team he believes will be near the top end of the division at the end of the season.
That was followed up by an impressive 4-2 dismantling of Wolverhampton Wanderers U21 in the Vertu Trophy, securing top spot in their group and a home tie against Rotherham in the round of 32 of the competition.
Youngster Bruno Padovani’s first senior goal was followed up by a second Vertu Trophy goal of the season for Cole Stockton. Ruben Butt’s first two senior goals rounded up a comprehensive victory, whilst also knocking Wolves out of the cup competition.
But Salford’s success in the Vertu Torphy proved to be little more than respite from League Two action, as The Ammies slipped to consecutive 2-0 losses against promotion rivals.
First, they suffered a disappointing defeat away at big-spending MK Dons, despite creating many chances to get themselves on the scoresheet. That was then followed by a worse performance in in South London away at Bromley, where they lost by the same scoreline.
Salford’s November ended on an emphatic high with a 4-3 win at home to Crawley carrying Karl Robinson’s side into the play-off places.

Two late goals from Josh Austerfield and Kallum Cesay helped Karl Robinson’s side overturn a 3-2 deficit in dramatic fashion.
Salford City will look to use that result to put a winning run together ahead of a busy festive period which starts with a Vertu Trophy match against Rotherham United tonight.
