A Salford community is urging people to share toys for an appeal to give deprived children a “special Christmas”.
Community Little Hulton and the Youth Unity mission is working on its annual toy drive, which is now in its 10th year.
The group, which has more than 1000 members, is asking for donations of new toys, games, crafts, toiletries, sweets and chocolates for children and young people.
Development manager at the hub Alison Jones said: “Last year we had over 1000 donations. This year we already have two six-foot tables worth of donations.”
“We take referrals in from schools, social workers, family support workers, health visitors. And families who may be finding Christmas difficult.”
Local collections can be arranged and those who are able to are encouraged to drop the gifts at 33 Manchester Road in Little Hulton.
Emma O’Donnell, community development worker, said: “In Little Hulton and the wider community, we understand that no matter what religion or whether you celebrate Christmas or not. Christmas is the time for giving to children.”
There are more than 110 volunteers who work over eight days who help the hub by helping them wrap and pack the gifts so they are ready to be given to the children.
New volunteers are always welcome and can apply to support the hub through the website here .
Jones followed up with: “Christmas is a special time for children. When you’re an adult it perhaps is not quite as jolly. So we want to make sure the children who maybe have less than their peers, we want to give them the best Christmas we possible can.”
If you or someone you know need help this Christmas, it can be found in our community.
