Karl Robinson was overjoyed after Salford City booked their place in the FA Cup third round with a 4-0 dismantling of Leyton Orient.
Salford opened the scoring after 23 minutes when Orient goalkeeper Cahill diverted a low cross from Kadeem Harris into his own net.
Karl Robinson’s side added a second after 61 minutes when Kallum Cesay’s low, curling shot was turned home by Kelly N’mai.
Salford moved further ahead after 87 minutes on the clock when Fabio Borini turned the ball home from close range before N’mai added the gloss to a complete Salford performance in stoppage time with a cool, sweeping finish.
Following the match, Salford head coach Karl Robinson joked that the team would be better suited to playing in the third tier after claiming their second League One scalp.
He said: “I’m very pleased with our performance and the players have fully put the game plan together today.
“We have now beaten the team who were top of League One in Lincoln and the leading goalscorers in the division above in Leyton Orient.
“We just have to earn promotion and get into that league – then we will be alright. I don’t want to stop here; I want to be in League One with Salford or the Championship.
“We know we’ve got so much quality, we’ve got so many good people and fantastic owners who are working around the clock to support what we’re trying to do at the club and we will look to add to the side in the January window to get into the league above.”
He reserved special praise for striker Cesay, who played a starring role on the night, and has made a strong impression since he joined from non-league Wealdstone in the summer.
“Tonight, our team played with a cheeky swagger and Kallum Cesay was especially excellent.
“I would put him in my top three best players in relation to the personality he has.
Last year, he was playing non-league football, he had three jobs. He has come here and scored five goals and contributed four assists. I think he’s got an unbelievable future,” Robinson said.
Salford City will learn their FA Cup third round opponents in tonight’s televised draw, which will take place at 18:40 pm, before the broadcast of Brackley Town v Burton Albion – the final game of the Second Round.
