Salford City manager Karl Robinson remarked his side are “good value for money” after their 4-3 comeback victory over Colchester United at the Peninsula Stadium.

Captain Luke Garbutt’s 92nd-minute screamer sealed a thrilling victory for the Ammies, who fought back from 3-1 down in the second half.

After Salford attacker Kadeem Harris coolly cancelled out Harry Anderson’s early strike, Colchester opened up a commanding two-goal lead through goals from Ellis Iandolo and Arthur Read.

Robinson’s side halved the deficit when Adebola Oluwo towered above his marker to head home before the hour mark.
Fabio Borni tucked away a 75th-minute penalty after Daniel Udoh had been hauled down in the penalty area to set up a grandstand finish.

The topsy-turvy game took a dramatic late twist when Garbutt fired into the top corner from outside the box to earn Salford a sensational win.

After the match, an ecstatic Robinson lauded the spirit his players showed to complete the unlikely turnaround – and said the match ticket was well worth its price.

Robinson said: “We’re so lucky to do this job. I think my job is the only one I wouldn’t want anyone to take.

“I’m so lucky to work with some wonderful people and the way my players conduct themselves is superb and we are a good team.

“On the back of some really difficult moments, we have managed to stand up as a group of people and accept the challenge.

“I love goals and I love energy and football is about excitement, football is about enjoying it, football is about everything I grew up as a kid watching.

“I want my team to epitomise what people want to see and I think you see that.

“If you live in the area, we’re certainly good value for money.

“Winning games is important and I think some of the way we play is on the edge but don’t forget the players we have out injured.”

Salford City consolidated their sixth-place league position with the win and will travel to mid-table Barnet for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday.
