A vibrant new staging of The Enormous Crocodile at The Lowry Theatre delivers a lively and playful introduction to Roald Dahl’s much-loved story, bringing its mischievous humour and colourful characters to life in a fun-filled stage adventure for young audiences.
It was just magical for my little one. From the moment we arrived, I could see the pure joy on her face as the musical adaptation of Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake’s iconic children’s book unfolded on the Salford stage.
Developed by Emily Lim, Ahmed Abdullahi Gallab, Suhayla El-Bushra, Tom Brady and The Roald Dahl Story Company, The Enormous Crocodile is fun, accessible and engaging from the outset.
The jungle set design by Fly Davies is a delight in itself, with rich colours and playful details that create a welcoming pre-show atmosphere and give children plenty to enjoy before the action begins.
Toby Ollie’s playful puppets stay true to Blake’s iconic illustrations and the same tale of an Enormous Crocodile making his way through the jungle in search of yummy children to eat is told by the book.

It is as much of a relief for parents and their children to see the croc come up short in its hunt for “delicious little fingers and squidgy podgy knees,” and the audience inside The Lowry Theatre were kept interested throughout.
With imaginative puppetry, assured performances and memorable songs by Ahmed Abdullahi Gallab and Suhayla El-Bushra The Enormous Crocodile proves an engaging and uplifting piece of family theatre.
As many families feel the pinch around Christmas time, tickets are reasonably priced from £12.50; it was such a wonderful experience to take my little one, especially in times when outings like this are a bit of a luxury.
The Enormous Crocodile runs until 4 January 2026 at The Lowry Theatre so there’s still plenty of time to snap up tickets here.
