A comedy night at the historic Salford Lads Club has raised more than £3,000 to support the charity’s community projects for young people.
On Friday 5 December a sell-out crowd packed into the iconic venue in Ordsall for a night of comedy headlined by a Phoenix Nights legend.
Best known for appearing in Peter Kay’s award-winning comedy series, fictional psychic Clinton Baptiste previewed new material ahead of his 2026 Spectral Intercourse tour, which includes a stop at The Lowry Theatre.
He was supported by local comedian Molly McGuinness, who opened the show proudly sporting a Salford Lass T-shirt and delighting the audience with her trademark humour and hometown charm.
The evening was hailed a huge success as residents, Phoenix Nights fans and comedy lovers came together under the Salford Lads Club roof to raise money for the charity.
Organisers were overjoyed with the turnout and highlighted that proceeds from the event will help the iconic club continue its work as a cornerstone for young people and creative initiatives in the city.
Laura Slingsby, CEO of Salford Lads Club, said: “It was a joy to see the place filled with laughter and energy – Clinton Baptiste and Molly McGuinness were brilliant!
“Events like these don’t just bring people together, they strengthen our long-term resilience and help us invest in the things that create real impact: youth programmes, community connection and the preservation of one of Salford’s most significant heritage spaces.
“Thanks to everyone who joined us, backed the raffle, donated, or simply filled the room with energy and a huge thank you as well to our raffle sponsors for their generosity.
“Their support helps us deliver the kind of work that changes lives, protects culture, and keeps this building thriving as a space for young people and Salford communities.”
