Manchester Swinton Lionesses in Spain

Manchester Swinton Lionesses have jetted off to Spain as part of their pre-season preparations, making the most of the warm climate.

In a Facebook post, the rugby team stated they were “making the most of our warm-weather training camp at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Spain.”

Warm weather helps high-performance athletes train better and reduce the risk of injury.

The Lionesses begin their 2026 campaign in a few months’ time, with their opening day fixture against Salford taking place on the 5th of April.

During the off-season the Lionesses have done well to sign seven new players. One star signing is that of Madeline Neale. Neale brings with her a wealth of Super League experience, having played two seasons there.

Notably, between the two seasons, the Lionesses changed their name. Formerly called the Swinton Lionesses, they will now be called the Manchester Swinton Lionesses. This change comes five years after the club’s formation.

This change comes after the club won its first-ever significant trophy last season, beating Salford Red Devils’ Women’s 12-4 to win the 2025 Women’s Challenge Shield. This rebrand comes as the club continues to grow its reputation in Rugby League.

As the new season approaches, expectations will be high for the club after building on a successful season last year. Fans only have to wait a few short months to see the Lionesses back in action.
