Salford City will look to build on an impressive showing at Manchester City in the FA Cup against Newport County in League Two.
Karl Robinson, who recently signed a new contract to keep him at the Peninsula Stadium, will hope that his team will take solace from only losing 2-0 to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Saturday.
“The way we have lost today was a testament to our players,” said Robinson after the match. “We have to get out of League Two. We believe we have a good enough team to do that.”
Salford City are currently sitting in sixth position in League Two but have at least two games in hand on each of their promotion rivals.
At the other end of the table, Newport County sit rock bottom of the division and have not won in five games.
The Exiles struggled to stay up last season and seem to be in the same boat this season.
Karl Robinson said when comparing Manchester City to Newport County: “It’s going to be hard. You’re playing in this wonderful stadium with thousands and thousands of people against some of the best players in the world, and that won’t be the case on Tuesday evening, and we have to focus on getting the three points.”
Newport are without an away win since their 3-0 victory over Harrogate Town in October and were beaten 1-0 by high-flying MK Dons on Saturday.
Newport County’s former-Leicester man Christian Fuchs said after their recent loss to MK Dons: “We make a crucial mistake in the first or second minute and that costs us. Then we don’t take our chances.
“When you play away against teams high in the table with momentum, you have to take the 10 per cent of chances you create.”
Salford City won 1-0 at Newport last time the two clubs met in the league and will be hoping to make ground on their League Two promotion rivals at the Peninsula Stadium tonight (17 February), kick-off is at 7:45 pm.
