A school in Salford  has won funds to add a nursery to its main school building.

Hilton Lane Primary School, Little Hulton, is the only school in Salford that does not provide nursery provision on the same site, instead leasing a nursery building that is not connected to the main site (pictured).

The nursery is currently located half a mile away from the main school in a leased church building, which causes issues related to safeguarding, capacity and high maintenance costs. There are currently no quiet areas for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Now the school has submitted planning documents detailing a new two-classroom Early Years Foundation block on the main school site.

£1.25m will be spent on the extension, which will expand the nursery to 30 places and provide a SEND space, which can accommodate up to 12 children.

Money has been raised from the payments resulting from the Brackley Golf Course Development.

A Salford City spokesperson said: “Having the early years foundation block and primary provision on-site will help to support SEND children by using the small reception classroom and outdoor space, allowing additional SEND placements to be created which can accommodate between 8-12 children depending on specific needs”
