Salford’s Peel Park is set to undergo a major rebranding to celebrate its 180th anniversary.
The rebrand, which will include distinctive new logos along with interactive wayfinding and digital animations, was designed by University of Salford student Fowziyah Adam.
Fowziyah said: “I feel so privileged that my time here at Salford coincided with this opportunity, with my work to now be on display in the park forever.
“I’ll be able to come back in ten years’ time and be able to show others what I did here as a student – that’s not something that most students get to achieve whilst studying here so I do feel very lucky.”
The design brief was open to all University of Salford second-year graphic design students in a collaboration between Salford City Council and the University.
Fowziyah’s work was hand selected by a panel made up of the council’s design team and a representative for the Carbon Creative, the agency who developed Salford Council’s centenary branding.
Fowziyah continued: “I found out that a lot of visitors wanted to see a community feel in the new branding and I worked hard to make sure that this came through in the design.”
She spent three weeks researching the park and interacting with visitors in an attempt to understand the community’s perspective, before submitting her designs.
Alan Oliver, Fowziyah’s programme lead, said: “Fowziyah’s designs are just brilliant. She really touched every base that the panel was looking for in her submission.
“To have her work permanently on show within a public park is some achievement. It will leave a legacy behind.”
Peel Park was established in 1846, funded entirely by the people of Salford and free for everyone to use, making it the first public park in the UK.
Fowziyah’s completed designs will be revealed later this year, when they are installed within the park.
