“I wanted to create something different,” Kelly Caffery recalled, reflecting on the moment she took a leap of faith and started a business in Salford that would go on to transform the lives of women across the city.

After growing up in Wythenshawe and moving to Salford aged 25, the mum of two has devoted the last 23 years to building her life in the city, raising a family and giving back to the community.

Kelly started her fitness business, Kelly Caffery Personal Trainer (KCPT), after completing her own weight-loss journey and losing over five stone, completely changing her lifestyle. However, in doing so, she realised how weight loss can feel so overwhelming for some women and how it can impact confidence.

“I wanted to create a place where women felt supported, understood and encouraged rather than judged.

“My mission has always been simple: to help women become happier, healthier and more confident, while showing them that consistency beats perfection every time.

“Today KCPT supports hundreds of women through group personal training, online coaching and a thriving online community, helping women fit their health around real life rather than expecting life to stop for fitness.”

Kelly shared that the most rewarding part of her work is not the weight loss but simply seeing women feeling proud of what they see in the mirror, having more energy, becoming happier in themselves, and getting their confidence back.

“KCPT has become a community where women support each other, celebrate each other’s wins and realise they’re capable of so much more than they ever believed.

“Salford has given me so much, so to be able to give something back to the community through KCPT means a great deal to me.”

Like with any small business, building something from the ground up takes resilience, and there were plenty of moments where Kelly questioned herself in the process of developing her personal training venture. However, through listening to feedback from the women she supports, she has invested in a new online portal for clients, making weight loss simpler, more personalised, and less overwhelming.

“The moments that stay with me are when someone tells me they’ve stopped hiding from photographs, worn clothes they never thought they’d wear again, or simply tell me they finally feel like themselves again,” Kelly said.

“Those moments remind me that it has never just been about losing weight – it’s about helping women believe in themselves again.”

When asked if she had any advice for people looking to get involved in the community, Kelly said: “Genuinely care about people.

“Don’t chase recognition, chase impact. Build relationships, be consistent, listen to people and always remember that sometimes the smallest bit of encouragement can completely change someone’s life.

“I never started KCPT expecting recognition.

“I simply wanted to help women feel happier, healthier and more confident.”
