A new mural created by Salford residents will be revealed at Eccles train station, this Friday.
Young people and families across Salford have helped bring a new artwork piece for Eccles train station to life. Residents of Eccles are welcomed to come along to the 12ft x 6ft mural unveiling this Friday, October 2 at 14:00.
They formed the idea and design through workshops at the Castle Community Centre. This was led by Eccles-based art school Humbug Art, alongside the teenagers in Humbug Arts League of Artists group and studio volunteers.
The piece was co-commissioned by The Friends of Eccles station (Freccles) wellbeing programme and the Rocket: All Aboard programme.
The Friends of Eccles station is a volunteer adoption group working in association with Northern Trains, who will be installing the mural.
Steve Hopkins, the Chair of Freccles said: “This newly commissioned mural represents another step in making the Station a place where the public feel welcome and are happy to be”.
Rocket: All Aboard is a people-led national programme celebrating the bicentenaries of the Rainhill Trials (2029) and the opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway (2030).
Dr Paul Salveson, Co-chair of Rocket: All Aboard, said: “This is exactly what Rocket: All Aboard is about, working with partners including Freccles, Humbug Art and Northern to give local people the opportunity to explore the remarkable story of the Railway in creative new ways. It has been wonderful to see young people and families shape this artwork and create something that belongs to their community, while connecting them to a story that changed the world.”
