Two new pedestrian crossings have been installed in the Salford area to keep children and residents safe when travelling to school.
The new crossings are on Cromwell Road near The Albion Academy, Pendleton, and in Partington Lane, Swinton, by the Deans Primary School and Moorside high school.
The schemes were installed following a comprehensive review of school crossing locations across the city by the council’s Road Safety Team, and now mean that families and residents can travel more safely.
Bev, who uses the crossing each day on Partington Lane with two children, said: “The crossing was needed. It is a very busy road and thanks to the crossing it is now much safer for everybody.”
Councillor Mike McCusker, Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Planning, Transport, Sustainable Development and Regeneration at Salford City Council, said: “Keeping children and families safe is a priority for the council, so it’s fantastic to see these new crossings now in place near three of our schools.
“Following a detailed assessment, Cromwell Road and Partington Lane were identified as high-priority locations due to factors including traffic levels, pedestrian activity and the need for improved crossing facilities.
“These new crossings will help make journeys to and from school safer and more accessible for pupils, parents, carers and the wider community. It’s great to see them now being used and helping people travel with greater confidence.”
These works were carried out over the summer to reduce any inconvenience to locals.
The council is now looking at introducing more crossings in the city.
