A 38-YEAR-OLD man has died after crashing his car into a tree on Birchfields Road in Rusholme early this morning.
The driver, who was behind the wheel of a Jaguar XKR, was taken to a local hospital but unfortunately died a short while later after the crash close to the junction of Westray Road.
The name of the man is still currently unknown.
Sergeant Paul Higgins of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This is a tragic incident, and I would like to offer my condolences to this man’s family, who we are working to provide with support from specially trained officers.
“There are currently road closures in place whilst we carry out enquiries so I would advise commuters to avoid the area and plan an alternate route.”
Birchfields Road has recently been reopened, following the incident being cleared.
