STOCKPORT County boss Jim Gannon will meet with the board this week as he looks for permission to bring in new additions following his side’s first loss at home in 11 months.

Matty Warburton had given County the lead but goals from Peter Wrightson, Michael Liddle and Jarrett Rivers meant the visitors took all three points back to the North East.

Jim Grannon said: “I need to have a chat with my board this week because I think we really need to change the mentality of the group at the moment. We haven’t got any players that are leading.

“I think it’s been coming if you look at some of the performances, the mentality of the players at certain stages of the game was very weak.

“We’re extremely ineffective and poor when we are mentally tired”

One place the side from SK3 could be looking to strengthen is their defence. The Hatters boss made an unsuccessful attempt to bring in Curzon Ashton centre half Danny Shaw earlier this month and he wasn’t happy with the way his side defended on Saturday.

“I look at our defenders and think do they love defending? Do they love winning balls? And when you look at the goals we’ve conceded it’s like it doesn’t really matter to some of them whether we keep a clean sheet.”

One player who did receive praise from his manager was midfielder Gary Stopforth. The former Salford man picked up the Man of the Match award for his tireless display in the loss.

“We would have won that game at a canter if we had 11 Gary Stopforth’s.”
