Callum Burton joined Salford City on a month-long loan deal from Hull City on Friday, and was given an immediate debut in the 1-0 win against Alfreton Town on Saturday.

Joining Salford City, the 21-year-old goalkeeper was full of praise for the club: “It’s brilliant. It’s a great setup.

“The training being as sharp as it is and all the lads wanting to win it shows why they’re top of the league. When there is competitiveness like that in training on a Friday its always going to prove on a Saturday when you’re playing games.”

Burton got a taste of that competitiveness just a day later when making his debut for Salford City against Alfreton Town.

The young goalkeeper, who has previously played for England at under-16, under-17 and under-18 levels, looked comfortable between the sticks and was noted for his distribution, starting several counterattacks for the Ammies.

Salford City earned a 1-0 win over Alfreton Town on Saturday through a 93rd minute Mani Dieseruvwe header.

After the match, Burton said: “I was happy I could come in and help the lads.

“The more the game went on the more it was important to keep tight at the back.”

Burton spent time on loan at both Nuneaton Town and AFC Telford United last season, making a combined total of 17 league appearances, while still on the books at Shrewsbury Town.

The Shropshire-born shotstopper signed for Hull City during the summer and has featured for the Championship club’s under-23s on and off this season before his loan move to the Peninsula Stadium.
