Salford footballers are being offered the chance to play five and seven a side football for free by a Kearsley astroturf facility.

The pitches are used by different Salford junior football teams including De La Salle FC with Saturday games being played there when their regular grass pitches are not usable.

The site is owned by 25 year old Sam Holben who is giving people the opportunity to book a one hour session for free.

Mr Holben is looking to help bring people together, saying: “I’m a one man band and I’m trying to provide value for the public and trying to get some good vibes and get people active”.

Manor Astro is located on Moss Lane on the outskirts of Salford. Mr Holben says that he offered free sessions to people in Bolton but complained that no-one promoted it saying that maybe they were not “pro-active enough”.

Manor Astro was the second astroturf facility built in the Salford and Bolton area and has been in place for more than 15 years. It has recently been refurbished, upgrading from old hockey-style five-a-side pitches to brand new third generation grass pitches.
