Leasing.com trophy semi-final

Salford City are looking to make it two visits to Wembley in the space of a year when they travel to Rodney Parade to face Newport County in their crucial Leasing.com Trophy semi-final on Wednesday evening.

The Ammies go into the game having overcome League One stalwarts Accrington Stanley in the quarter-finals of the competition, staging a great comeback to win 2-1 at the Peninsula Stadium back in January.

Wednesday evening marks the latest stage in Salford’s debut season in the Leasing.com trophy where they remain undefeated in the competition, with the only goal conceded in the quarter-finals.

Speaking after the game against Stevenage on Saturday, manager Graham Alexander said: “I think we played there [Rodney Parade] earlier in the season and the weather was a little bit like this, I think the pitch has deteriorated since then because of the use it gets, so I expect the game would be similar to tonight.”

He said: “But we’ve shown we can come to a ground like this with the conditions and compete and win and we’re going to have to try and do that again on Wednesday.

“We want to reward the backing that we get, you saw the supporters today, superb, and I’m sure they will be down with us on Wednesday.”

There are no new injury concerns for Graham Alexander’s men and tickets are still available to buy from the ticket office which is open between 12pm-3pm today, with spaces on the coach still available priced at £10 for the return journey.
