This time of year can be difficult for many. Coronavirus has left families without jobs meaning that children across Salford could go without presents on Christmas Day. The winter months are also difficult for people living on the streets
Charities and people across the region have set up gift appeals and donations to provide support for those in need. Here is a list of what’s happening in Salford:
The Salford Gift Appeal
Samantha Jolly, a teaching assistant, has set up The Salford Gift Appeal to make sure children will wake up to presents on Christmas Morning. Jolly is asking for donations of new toys for children aged 0-16 years. Food donations are also welcomed for families who may be struggling.
The donation drop-off point is located at Morrisons in Swinton and a GoFundMe page has been set up. For the full article, check it out here on Salford Now.
Caritas Salford Digital Advent Appeal
Salford-based charity group Caritas have launched their annual Advent Appeal online this year. #MiracleOfKindness campaign is to help homeless people and a short film on YouTube showing three different homeless stories has been created to highlight the work the charity does.
The appeal was forced to move online due to the ongoing pandemic, yet the charity have been determined to continue providing support to people who need it the most. For the full article, read all about it here.
The Plodding Along Book Club Appeal
The Swinton book club catering for both children and adults are teaming up with Wood Street Mission charity this year to ensure children will have gifts on Christmas day. Amy Coffey, runner of the club, started the book club during lockdown and wanted to support the work of Wood Street by asking people to donate books, jigsaws or games.
The pandemic has been difficult for the charity as there are less people and space for donations, this explains why gift appeals like The Plodding Along Book Club are important. Youth Unity gift appeal
Youth Unity’s toy appeal is asking for residents in Little Hulton to donate gifts including colouring books, games, and toiletries for children aged up to 16. The last chance to donate is the 11 December to ensure all gifts are delivered in time for Christmas. To make a donation, you can bring gifts to the centre (which is following Covid-19 guidelines).
