The legendary Salford Lads Club is creating its first ever all girls football team since the formation of the club in 1903.

For more than 100 years Salford Lads Club has provided facilities for young boys to get active within the community.

The club has called for girls aged 7-11 and 12-15 to join their ranks and make history as the first girls football teams to be produced from the club.

Facilities have already been put in place for the new teams, so the club is ready to welcome them when enough girls have signed up.

They are currently planning to create two girls teams for the two different age groups advertised.

The club urged: “Join Salford Lads and Girls Club’s first ever girls football team and make a little piece of History.

“We are looking to create another piece of history for next season and we don’t mean the European Super League.”

This move comes not long after the well-established club made an appearance on the popular cartoon show ‘The Simpsons’.

A popular place among locals and tourists, the club is taking a big step and redefining what Salford Lads Club is known for.

While the news may shock some, the plan is a positive one that will reinforce inclusivity within the club and send a strong message rejecting gender stereotypes.

The clubs name will remain the same despite the changes made for the clubs future.
