ST HELENS Council leader Barrie Grunewald is out of his induced coma and “making good progress” after being in a critical condition for over a week.

Grunewald suffered a heart attack at a Gran Canaria hotel around 5pm on Friday 7 – whilst enjoying a break with friends and family after recently losing his mother.

Councillor John Fulham, who flew to the Spanish hospital to support Grunewald and his family, revealed yesterday that Grunewald “is out of his induced coma and making good progress”.

A number of people sent Councillor Grunewald their best wishes, including labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

“As a fellow councillor for rainhill I am concerned for his wellbeing,” said Stephen Glover and added: “We’re looking forward to getting together again this week hopefully and carry on the work we’ve been doing”.
