A NEW choir is taking to the Trafford Centre next month to launch a fund to help struggling Salford families.
The Sunny Salford Singers are the creation of homeless charity Emmaus which wants to do more to support the wider community.
They will be singing carols at the centre on December 19 to raise money and let people know that help will be available.
Emmaus is a charity started in 2002 which aims to reduce homelessness and support formerly homeless people by giving them opportunity to work in Emmaus’ social enterprises and in return paid accommodation is provided to them.
Former homeless charity members have created a choir called The Sunny Salford Singers who will sing a medley of Christmas hits to help raise funds to carry out charitable acts in the wider Salford community.
Simon Lock, Communications Director at Emmaus Salford says ” we wont be raising money for ourselves in Trafford however we will be raising money to fund charitable acts in the wider community of Salford for example if someone needs to paint their home Emmaus can tap into the money raised from the event to help pay for the paint”.
The charity currently helps 22 residents living and working in the Emmaus community by giving them jobs such as furniture store workers, clothing shop workers, van drivers, soup kitchen cooks and receptionists.
“The only way Emmaus survives is with the people that are formerly homeless joining our charity, without those people getting up everyday and dispelling the rumours of homeless people not doing anything to help themselves Emmaus would not be able to operate”.

Although Emmaus is a biblical name Emmaus Salford works with people from different backgrounds, supports people who believe in different faiths, and also supports people who are not religious. So everyone is welcome to come down to the Trafford Centre to help contribute to a great cause.
The choir will be entertaining shoppers on December 19 from 6-10pm in the Trafford Centre between Marks & Spencer’s and Boots.
