Salford has reached a milestone in a £2.5 billion, 240-acre scheme bringing over 3,000 homes and a new transport hub to the city.

The £2.5 billion Crescent Salford masterplan has been named as one of the projects set to receive funding from the next phase of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Good Growth Fund.

The fund aims to accelerate regeneration and drive long-term growth across the city region, facilitating investment in new homes, employment opportunities, innovation spaces and transport infrastructure.

The £9.9 million grant will help fund accessible walking and cycling routes and improves public spaces across the masterplan.

It will also help support the delivery of new homes, education facilities, jobs and commercial spaces as part of the transformation of this area of the city.

Charlie Alcroft, Development Manager at English Cities Fund (ECF) said: “As the Crescent Salford masterplan continues to gather pace, this grant from the Good Growth Fund will enable us to deliver the infrastructure needed to unlock the next phase of regeneration, creating stronger connections between new places, the University campus, surrounding communities and public transport networks.

“The funding Crescent Salford has received to date is a testament to the shared vision and ambition of all the partners involved to unlock Salford’s potential, drive growth and create opportunities for people from across the city and beyond.”

Delivered by Salford City Council, the University of Salford and ECF, the Crescent Salford masterplan aims to bring together industry, education and community in which people can thrive.

Mark Wantling, Chief Infrastructure Officer at University of Salford said: “The Good Growth funding will support our new developments around Peel Park on the south side of Salford Crescent, including Faraday House and the Business School, pending planning approval.

“We are in the middle of extensive redevelopment of our buildings and public realm to improve this area of Salford Crescent for our students, staff and the community and we look forward to working with our partners in ECF to deliver the changes.”

Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett has said the £9.9 million funding boost will help unlock the next phase of the Crescent Salford regeneration programme.

He said: “This is a transformative investment for Salford.

“It’s about creating a healthier, more connected city where residents can easily access the opportunities and benefits that growth brings.”
