River Irwell in flood at Cromwell Bridge

The catchment area of the Lower River Irwell in Salford has been put under a weather warning by the Met Office with more heavy showers expected this week.

On Saturday and Sunday, Salford and more broadly the North West were issued a weather warning after Storm Aiden and Hurricane Zeta hit Salford and the surrounding areas with heavy rain and strong winds.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for this part of the region and its expected that flooding could be a possibility, with the weather not improving over the next few days.

Police have advised that drivers do take extra care whilst driving and especially on the motorways.

The Environmental Agency have said “Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and be aware of your surroundings and keep up to date with the current situation.

“Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary”.
