Salford City travel up north to Carlisle this Wednesday to try and bounce back from their demoralising FA Cup exit at the hands of Newport County.

The Ammies drew 2-2 with Carlisle last season and will be hoping to turn the fixture into a win this time around, with Carlisle just one point ahead with Salford having a game in hand.

A win would mean a third win in a row in the Sky Bet League Two for Salford and would represent a significant statement of intent for their promotion push.

Currently, in 8th place, a win would lift them to 4th in the league, a very healthy position as the hectic Christmas period approaches.

Away form for Salford has been lacking recently, however, with four defeats from their last five away games.

Salford fielded a much-changed team against Newport, but the first team regulars will be hoping to get back on track tomorrow night as Wellens is expected to return to his most trusted player.

However, Salford will be without striker Brandon Thomas-Asante who was given a straight red card against Newport and will also be without key players such as Richie Towell, James Wilson, and Darron Gibson.

Carlisle will be a tough test for Salford as they have been in the playoff places since early October and only Cheltenham have visited the Cumbrians and left with points so far this season, but if Salford are serious about promotion this year, this exactly the kind of challenge they must rise to.
