When it comes to getting in the mood for Christmas, Salford’s sparkling and fiery Lightwaves Festival does not disappoint.
Returning to Salford Quays for its ninth year, it brought a relaxed and warming vibe that was emphasised by the fast-approaching winter bite.
Walking around MediaCity at night usually feels like the inside of a disco ball to begin with, so adding a splash of colour and a few other elements meant the festival had a great impact on those who attended.
From the oldest to the youngest, people were transfixed by the fire shooting sculptures and the rainbow tunnel. With attendance free, it was hard for people to not head down and experience the lights for themselves or change their commute home to ensure they caught some of the action.
The festival could be described as quaint, but this only furthered the congregational nature that then caused people to leave feeling as though they had taken part in something slightly magical.
The displays on offer won’t suffice for any hardcore adrenaline junkies looking for their next thrill, but if you enjoy relaxed and nostalgia-inducing environments then Lightwaves festival is a must do for next year.
The festive period is a time when the child in all of us comes out and the lights display that made its home in media city emphasised this very effectively.
The 13 artistic exhibits were unique to say the least, which enhanced their ability to strike a chord with everyone who viewed them.
The only downside is that the free festival does not last longer so when it’s in session again next year don’t delay.
