Children have been working hard to create new community allotments in Cadishead with hopes to supply Salford food schemes.

Youngsters from Cadishead and Irlam will be growing their own fruit and vegetables, which they can harvest themselves or donate to food schemes.

Project director, Jennie Hughes, said: “Our allotment project in Cadishead is a youth social action for young people in the Cadishead and Irlam areas.

“The project is created by children, who have said they want to grow healthy food for people in the local area, to help people to live much healthier lives, and more importantly help to support those who are hungry.

“The exact details of when our regular meetings will be, what we will be doing and growing etc will be decided by the children and their families who can join the project at our first couple of meetings, where we will be growing fruit and vegetables on Recreate-U’s plot which is part of the Poorlot Allotments.”

The first meeting will be on March 5 at the Poorlot Allotments on Allotment Road in Cadishead.
