Salford City will be looking to go three games undefeated as they return to the Peninsula Stadium this weekend.

Following their recent 1-1 draw to Barrow,  Neil Wood’s men sit five points away from the automatic promotion spot.

With Salford having a two-game advantage over surrounding teams, they must secure a win to maintain the push for automatic promotion.

But with only one win in the last five, Salford will be trying to recapture some form against Newport County and stop some signs of complacency.

As a deflated Neil Wood detailed after the draw to Barrow: “The period where we were a little bit complacent we’ve probably allowed them to impact how they wanted to impact.”

And despite Newport’s position in the league, Salford can’t expect an easy fixture with the away side coming into the game in better form only losing one of the last five.

With Salford hoping to regain their confidence in front of the goal, as Wood noted: “So a little bit unlucky I felt we could have had a little bit more luck in front of goal.”

This confidence will be detrimental to the rest of their season, as another winless performance could see them fall out of the playoff positions.

Mansfield currently sit a point behind the Ammies, they travel to 15th place AFC Wimbledon.

Whilst Bradford City, who sit one spot ahead of them, have a chance to extend the gap against 19th place Colchester United.

And with the team in need of goals, they will be looking to the most creative player in the top four English divisions, Elliot Watt.

With the 22-year-old accumulating 13 assists this season, he will be the player they’ll look toward for goals.

The previous encounter between the two sides was a nervous Salford win, with Luke Bolton and an own goal by Cameron Norman.

It was the last 15 minutes that made the fixture a nervy one with County coming from 2-0 down to equalise, with goals from Scot Bennett and Omar Bogle.

But it was Ryan Leak’s header assisted by Elliot Watt that was the difference.

Fans will be hoping that this 3 pm kick-off at the Peninsula Stadium won’t be as testing.
