Ian McLaren, owner of McLaren and Co. feels extremely grateful to be nominated, he said: “Meeting people with the same interests and same passions…it’s nice to support each other instead of people trying to knock other people down.”

He and his husband, Jack, created the place from scratch, renovating it completely, painting and beautifully decorating it themselves, taking nine weeks to make it perfect before they opened.

Extremely passionate about his work, he has been in the industry since he was 16 years old, working alone to provide all services, six days a week. His decision to dive in and create his own shop came when he thought: “If I don’t do it now, I’m never going to.”

Ian is a certified, fully insured practitioner, specialising in all forms of men’s grooming, professional barbering, hair replacement systems and aesthetics treatments.

Ian feels it is important to support small businesses. He said: “We’ve seen so many stores open up and so much money and effort is put into them, but people just go once and they end up closing down.”
