A cost of living support fund has been launched with Salford Community Leisure that offers a 50 per cent discount to all over 70s in cafes across the city.
The six cafes plan to have the deal on across the autumn and winter, where over 70s will receive a discount card upon their first visit for future use.

The six locations offering the deal are:
- Parr Fold Park
- Clifton Country Park
- Irlam & Cadishead Leisure Centre
- Worsley Leisure Centre
- Salford Museum & Gallery
- Ordsall Hall
Their aim with the offer is to provide a “warm beverage and a friendly conversation” as well as help those with the cost of living crisis during the colder period.
Steve Brown, 74, who was using the facilities provided at Salford Museum and Art Gallery said: “The food here is very nice and the prices even better.
“It’s difficult for lots of people with the cost of living and that, I think it’s nice the council are looking out for people a bit older like me.”

I saw notice that the 50% discount for over 70s ends on 30 June 2025.
It is so important that this discount continues; that our senior citizens receive support to get about; to keep fit and healthy.
The prices of food in cafes and restaurants anywhere is too much for people on a fixed income. but when Salford brought in this scheme it was welcomed by Salford people over 70.
The scheme is welcome for a number of reasons….if you are a sufferer of certain health conditions a small amount of food and drink help alleviate conditions for instance diabetes, etc , also for some older people the only contact they have to meet with friends and family members is at the City,s leisure services cafe.
The discount also has seen an increase in footfall at the SMAG cafe where the staff and food are both an enjoyable experience in these days of corporate sameness and food made to a corporate method.
Salford Mayor Paul Bennett and this colleagues on Salford City Council please reconsider your decision to end this scheme .
