The Broughton House director of business administration has had her 30-year tenure at the veteran care village recognised in the form of a Meritorious Service certificate.

Former Broughton House trustee, Tom O’Brien, who nominated winner Catherine Healey for the award, said: “She would move heaven and earth to deliver the care and support to the residents of Broughton House and the veteran community.

“She has worked tirelessly and selflessly in supporting the charity, the home, veterans and their families.

“She is held in high esteem by the residents and staff, as the go-to lady who can assist and support them.

“I had no hesitation in recommending her for the award.”

Presented at The Monastery in Gorton, this years annual HM Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Awards ceremony recognised those who have gone above and beyond in serving British veterans.

Catherine, who joined the staff in March 1993, said: “Broughton House is a very special, unique care facility for veterans, and it is my privilege to be able to work for such a worthwhile charity.”

Catherine was not the only recipient of recognition on the night, with Broughton House itself receiving a Lord-Lieutenant’s commendation for veterans and service charities.

The care facility has cared for more than 8,000 veterans since it opened its doors to the ex-service community in 1916.

Having recently been redeveloped, the complex now boasts a 64-bed care home that includes a 16-bed household dedicated to veterans with dementia as well as independent living apartments.

There are also a range of modern facilities onsite including a museum, gym, hairdressing salon and restaurant/bar area for residents to use.
