A new strategy to get Salford residents off the streets has been welcomed by a homelessness charity worker, who says that the borough is ‘struggling’ with the issue.
Salford Council has this week discussed its new annual homelessness delivery plan for 2024/25, saying that homelessness is ‘everyone’s business’.
The plan focuses on early intervention and partnership development as well as ‘quality support’ for homeless people including access to suitable accommodation, timely engagement and accessible advice.
Cath Stirling, the Housing Coordinator for Manchester City Mission, a charity covering homelessness across all of Manchester’s boroughs, says she welcomes the action but that housing is in ‘short supply’ in the city.
”I think they (the council) are working hard to improve housing for everybody.”
”There is a struggle and mismatch between the need and what is actually available to provide. All local authorities are struggling to provide the need.”
As the annual delivery plan deadline approaches, the council is currently updating for 24/25.
”We applaud what they are doing while hoping there can be more funding made available.”
