US singer Chris Brown has avoided jail after hitting a man over the head twice with a glass bottle at a London nightclub.

The 37-year-old musician has been sentenced to eight months – suspended for a year,  after attacking music producer Abraham Diaw three years ago.

He had faced up to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a count of affray in July for the attack on the dance floor of Tape, a private club in Mayfair, London in February 2023.

Video footage played in court showed Brown having to be pulled away from the victim after striking him twice in the head with a bottle.

He was arrested at the Lowry hotel in Salford on May 15, 2025. Brown was remanded into custody following an initial hearing at Manchester Magistrates Court. Following this hearing the singer was held at HMP Forest Bank in Salford.

In July of this year, the singer admitted affray for attacking producer Diaw at the Mayfair club in 2023.

Sentencing him at Southwark Crown Court, Judge Tony Baumgartner said the R&B star’s actions were “plainly dangerous”.

At Southwark Crown Court on October 26th Brown was sentenced to eight months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.

His vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, 40, who joined the attack, was sentenced to four months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, and both men were ordered to pay £1,500.

In sentencing, Judge Tony Baumgartner said: “The repeated use of a glass bottle in that way, especially aimed at the head, was plainly dangerous, it carried the risk of delivering a more serious injury than was ultimately sustained.”

Heidi Stonecliffe KC, prosecuting, told the court that Brown used a “heavy square shaped tequila bottle” and “hit Mr Diaw twice over the left-hand side of his head”.

Ms Stonecliffe added that Omololu Akinlolu then grabbed Abraham Diaw in a “bear hug” leading to “Mr Diaw falling to the ground and Mr Brown seen throwing punches.”

The incident lasted around 20 seconds and started at around 3am, the court heard.
