Foster carers across Salford are set to star in videos to encourage more people to become carers and will be celebrated with an award show.

Foster carers across Salford are set to star in videos to encourage more people to join the career path and will also be celebrated with an award show.

The videos with Salford City Council will also be used for the fortnight (Monday 12 May till Sunday 25 May) to highlight all the support and explain how fostering works.

Some of the carers have quizzed Lead Member for Children’s and Young People’s services Councillor Jim Cammell who answers common questions people have.

The theme this year for the Foster Care Fortnight is ‘The Power of Relationships’ and will focus on the connections built between carers and young people that ‘transform lives’.

Carers will also be celebrated at the Foster Carer Awards event on Monday 19 May to recognise the fantastic work they do, and it will also celebrate the efforts they make, going into homes to provide love, stability, and care to children and young people in need.

There will be 17 carers at the awards who have together given 330 years of care and support cared for children in Salford.

The annual awards are held to recognise and praise the commitment and achievements across Salford – with 38 awards for service, ranging from five to 30 years and will  be given to foster carers from up and down the country, including the Newcomer of the Year award and Dedication to Fostering award.

The council is also supporting The Fostering Network’s Foster Care Fortnight annual campaign to raise awareness of the incredible impact of foster care, and to inspire more people to step into the career. It’s also a chance to say a big thank you them for their remarkable dedication.

Councillor Jim Cammell said: “Foster Care Fortnight is a time that we really look forward to each year because we can hear about and celebrate all the vital care our amazing carers give each day for vulnerable children so they can have positive futures.

“Our carers and our Foster for Salford team, go above and beyond to support and give back to our local community and our most vulnerable young people.

“Salford, like the rest of the UK, urgently needs more foster carers to ensure every child can be matched with the right home for their individual needs. So, we hope other people will be inspired to become foster carers.”
