With the February half-term just around the corner, Salford is gearing up for a week of family-friendly fun. From outdoor adventures to creative workshops, there’s plenty to keep children entertained, including the chance to seemuch-loved children’s book illustrations brought to life.
With the February half-term commencing from next Monday (16th February) and ending Friday 20th, families will no doubt be on the search for local, affordable, and of course, fun activities to fill the week.
There are a multitude of opportunities to get out and about in Salford next week, from exciting new ways to keep fit and active, to chances for local children to unleash their creative abilities.
The RHS event: ‘The Wind in the Willows: A garden adventure’ presents an excellent opportunity for the younger members of the family to discover the RHS garden Bridgewater and the natural world that surrounds them.
Commencing for the first time on Saturday, 14th February, and running all the way through the half-term, the trail offers the whole family a chance for an immersion in the natural world, while also providing the kids a whole host of magical memories, in celebration of the 95th anniversary of E.H. Shepard’s illustrative work.
The day promises: “As you explore the gardens’ most beautiful spots, you’ll discover favourite characters such as Mole, Ratty, Toad and Badger hidden among the plants and pathways, along with sensory boxes to spark curiosity, traditional garden games for all ages and photo spots perfect for capturing family memories.”
Not only will the Wind in the Willows trail help to spark joy and laughter in a lovely school holiday excursion, but also acts as a brilliant opportunity for your children to learn about the wonders of wildlife for just £5 for ages 5-16, and free entry for RHS members and under 5s.
“Encouraging curiosity about wildlife, the trail ties into the RHS’s 2026 theme of biodiversity, helping to teach the importance of protecting the natural environment and learning about wildlife and habitats, all through the beloved characters and timeless charm of Kenneth Grahame’s classic tale.”
Salford libraries from areas all over the city are also offering free arts and craft events suitable for children aged 3 and older.
Activities ranging from Hobby Horse wands, 3D crafting and collage making can be accessed free of charge across the half-term week, and provide ample opportunity for children to continue to be creative, even outside of the classroom.
