artisan market

A mother and daughter who came together to create an artisan market are bringing it back to Walkden this May.

The family duo have hosted several markets in Walkden previously, but will returning to the joy of residents this weekend (Saturday 24 May).

Throughout the day, local residents can enjoy a fun day out supporting local businesses and chatting to each other.

During the event, several local businesses will be hosting stalls, with there also being an opportunity for children to enjoy a free craft stall.

The D&D Artisan Market will be at Walkden Town Centre and will run on Saturday between 10am-4pm.

The market and project were created by mother and daughter, Diane and Caitlin Reynolds, who came up with the idea after attending markets as shoppers and traders themselves.

Enjoying meeting new people and building a relationship with their community, they wanted to spread this further to others in the region.

Caitlin, said: “We knew what we did and didn’t like about other markets as traders, so we built this to make it something people want to come to and enjoy.”

Attendees can enjoy over twenty independent stalls that offer a range of items from baked goods to hand-made wood carvings.

There will also be an appearance from a local Walkden author who will be selling her book series.

Caitlin continued: “Without a community we wouldn’t have these events or business, the more we work with our traders and the more personable we are with them the more they give us back – you build a community with them.”

And with Walkden Town Centre implementing a £15 million regeneration plan, community events like this will help bring people back together.

Diane and Caitlin both want this event to be treated as a community get together rather than a ‘commercial market’.

“The hope is that it will draw people back into the centre and encourage that physical shopping of local products.”

And the pair are eager for people to attend this weekend and hope that people will enjoy sharing the community fuelled experience present at these events.

Diane is striving to spread this joy cross other communities and showed pride for what her and her daughter have achieved so far.

She said: “We are still looking for areas that want that community feeling we are trying to give.

“I hope we have brought even a small amount of life back to Walkden and we want to contribute to other areas that want that feeling.”
