Storm Floris - salford weather warning

Salford is set to be hit by strong winds as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning as Storm Floris approaches.

The weather warning was issued today (Friday 1 August) , with strong winds and heavy rainfall expected across the northern half of the UK on Monday 4 August and early Tuesday 5 August.

Named Storm Floris, Salford residents can expect “gusts of 40-50mph, with 60-70mph more likely at higher elevations.”

The warning will be in force from 6am on Monday 4 August until 6am on Tuesday 5 August 2025.

The storm itself will bring “a spell of unusually windy weather for the time of year” and will cover a large area of Greater Manchester with Salford and north Manchester, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, and Wigan all set to be affected.

The Met Office have also warned that residents could expect some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

As well as injuries and danger to life from flying debris, and power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

The strong winds and heavy rainfall of Storm Floris could also see some roads and bridges close.

And road, rail, air and ferry services potentially being affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Storm Floris will bring a spell of unusually windy weather for the time of year across the northern half of the UK early next week.

“The strongest winds are most likely to occur across Scotland during Monday afternoon and night, although there remains some uncertainty in the depth and track of Floris.

And Matthew Lehnert, a Met Office Chief Meteorologist continued: “Across the warning area, many inland areas are likely to see gusts of 40-50mph, with 60-70mph more likely at higher elevations and around exposed coasts in Scotland.

“There is a small chance that some locations here could even record gusts of 85mph.”
