Partners and Salford University graduates Tobias Peever and Callum Jackson are raising money to convert their van into a mobile coffee shop so they can serve brews at TV studios around the country.

The pair, who met at university, work in TV and set up Studio Black Coffee in 2024, which roasts and sells its own coffee to numerous local cafes, shops and creative spaces including Dock 10 in Media City.

Now they are raising money through crowdfunding   to expand in what they call “possibly the biggest risk they’ve ever taken.”

After they graduated in 2021 and 2022 they both went on to work in TV, where they continue to work alongside running their coffee company.

“We thought, we could open a coffee shop, but it would never truly be selling something that was our own,” said Tobias.

“We often take it for granted, the coffee that just appears in our supermarkets, in coffee shops. We never really understand how it gets there.

“The magic of where the beans come from, how they’re roasted, all the work that goes into it, is almost as cool as what goes on behind the scenes on TV.”

The two noticed that the coffee across studios was always of a very poor quality.

“Our idea was to create Studio Black and be that hybridisation, bring quality coffee into the TV world,” said Callum.

Studio Black Coffee is currently accepting donations anywhere from £5–£150.

With a range of rewards available, anyone interested in supporting them won’t be giving away their money empty-handed. Customers are even able to get their name printed onto the side of their new coffee van, with a donation of £50 or more.

“You can almost come along with us to each shoot. We’re trying to create something where the local community truly feels part of something that is uniquely theirs,” said Tobias

“We are the UK’s only specialist coffee supplier in the film and TV industry, I don’t think we ever wanted to just roast coffee, the whole reason is for the industry.”
