Salford City head coach Peter Cklamovski has made clear that there is ‘no ceiing’ to what his Ammies side can achieve this season.
The League Two standings now start to reflect the patterns that Salford’s board were hoping to see come to fruition when appointing Cklamovski last June, replacing Karl Robinson after his failure to secure promotion at the final stage.
The Australian was jubilant in his dissection of Salford’s trip to Oldham Athletic, which saw the Ammies comfortably sweep aside their local derby counterparts in a match that had everything that could be asked for.
Luke Molyneux put Salford in front from the whistle with his cross-turned-shot being enough to beat Mathew Hudson’s stature, before Kelly N’Mai made it two from outside the box 20 minutes in.
Calum Kavanagh’s swift reply gave Salford something to ponder during the interval, but the visitors flew back out of the blocks and found Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu in an inviting pocket of space to poke home the third, before Adebola Oluwo repeated history to head home the sealer, just as was fate in April 2026 at Boundary Park.
The Salford boss had this to say after the result: “No ceiling, I’ll never put a ceiling on our goals, we’ll just chase to be better every day, that’s our mentality and that comes from hard work and diligence in what we do each day on and off the training pitch, and the sky’s the limit, but we’ve got to stay humble and keep working hard.
“The little setbacks we had at the beginning of the season are part of the journey, I fell to it and saw it, but the players also realised we weren’t far away in that tricky period.
“The most important part is in those moments how you respond, how you handle adversity and I’m so proud of the players for their commitment and their belief.”
Salford’s win on Saturday afternoon made it a fifth straight win over the Latics, a record spanning back to 2021. It also marks 5 games unbeaten in league action for Peter Cklamovski’s side, and he credited Salford’s support with that feat, a real turnaround from their fortunes at the season’s inception.
“It’s [Salford’s support] fantastic, I know it helps the players push every bit of energy out to get the three points for them and I’m really thankful for the support they give us.
“I’m really proud of the players for their efforts tonight, the football we played in a derby where there’s plenty of emotion and we let our football do the talking, and the most important thing is that we send the fans home with a smile on their face.”
Salford’s next test is Fleetwood Town at the AIG Stadium on Saturday 3rd October for a 3pm kick off.
