Brendan Wiredu-Salford City

Salford City have signed Plymouth Argyle midfielder Brendan Wiredu for an undisclosed fee on a deal spanning multiple years.

The 26-year-old has joined the club the Ammies following their disappointing 3-1 opening day defeat to Barnet.

Following their matchday one defeat to Barnet, Salford City have added midfielder Brendan Wiredu to their ranks.

Wiredu, 26, previously spent three years with Fleetwood Town, being named their captain at just 24 years of age.

The box-to-box midfielder is returning to the north-west of England following a spell at Plymouth Argyle. He made 36 appearances for The Pilgrims, helping them to achieve an eighth place finish, narrowly missing out on the play-offs in League One.

Speaking to the Club after signing, he said: “I’m buzzing to be here, and I can’t wait to get started.

“We know what the ambition is and what we want to do this season, so to come here and be a part of that is a key reason why I wanted to join and be part of a successful team.

“I’m someone that leaves it all on the pitch, out of possession relentless, someone that’s going to be in the opposition’s face. On the ball, calm and composed, get it down and play, and here and there add a few goals in. Hopefully I can add a lot to what is already a very talented squad.”

Born in London, of Ghanaian descent, he started his career at Charlton Athletic with early loan spells at Bromley in the National League in 2018-19 and Colchester United in
Sky Bet League Two in 2019-20.

Off the pitch, Wiredu set up the Bredan Wiredu Foundation earlier in 2026, inspired by his own journey. The foundation focuses on educating, empowering, and engaging young people through
sport in England and Ghana.

This is the ninth signing for Salford City this summer, as they seek to go one step further than last season and gain promotion to League One, following a disappointing loss in the Play-off final last season.

The Ammies will play Chesterfield tomorrow as they hope to get their first win of the season under new manager Peter Cklamovski.
