A meeting to ensure Salford’s grassroots sports clubs receive sufficient funding and support will be held at Eccles RFC tomorrow, October 13.

Representatives and members of all grassroots clubs across Salford are invited to the meeting tomorrow to discuss “the kind of support they need and what they feel successful grassroots sports infrastructure in Salford will look like in the future.”

Members from Salford CVS, Salford City Council, Greater Manchester Moving and Salford Community Leisure will also attend.

Councillor Hannah Robinson-Smith, Lead Member for Culture, Heritage, Equalities, Sports and Leisure at Salford City Council said: “We are committed to giving something back to our communities, which is why supporting grassroots sports is really important. Volunteers and grassroots facilities play a significant role in helping to bring people together and improve health and wellbeing in our city.”

Increasing access to sporting facilities is one of the ‘priorities’ outlined in Salford City Councils 2024- 2028 corporate plan.

According to Sport England, organised sports participation across the country has decreased from 5.3% in 2022 to 4.8% in the last 12 months.

The meeting will be held between 7 and 8:30pm at Eccles RFC, Gorton Street, Peel Green, M30 7LZ.

All representatives of grassroots sports teams are invited to attend the open-invite event.
