The Salford community is set to benefit from modernisation services to keep the city’s streets, parks and neighbourhoods clean.
The modernisation budget of £839,91 has been launched for 2026/27 and Salford City Council say the first phase will focus on leadership, financial control, health and safety, workforce support and performance information while continuing visible action in neighbourhoods. This includes hotspot interventions, town-centre and arterial-route cleansing, estate activity, environmental education and enforcement, and parks and public-realm improvements.
The aim of the modernisation services is to move away from responding to the same recurring issues and put greater emphasis on prevention and identifying problems earlier by using local data and residents’ experiences to target action where it can make the biggest difference.
Councillor Barbara Bentham said: “We know that our residents want to see clean, safe and well cared-for streets and neighbourhoods, and they want issues dealt with before they become persistent.
“This programme is about making sure we use all our resources and information as effectively as possible, while continuing the visible work residents expect to see in their communities and improved environmental outcomes.
“Whether it’s litter, fly-tipping, housing density or the way public spaces are used, we want to understand those differences better, listen to residents and focus action where it can have the greatest impact.”
The money will also focus on the different environmental challenges faced by neighbourhoods across the city, from litter and fly-tipping to the impact of changing populations and housing.
A Neighbourhood Environmental Outcomes Summit is planned for early 2027, where residents will join council staff, elected members, community organisations, academic partners and other partners to consider evidence and experience of environmental conditions across Salford’s neighbourhoods.
By combining local knowledge, service data and residents’ feedback, the programme will help target action where it can make the biggest difference and keep communities cleaner, greener and better maintained.
